Types of Microwave – Combination Microwaves

The combination microwave has three main functions:

• Conventional microwave cooking
• Convection heating using fanned hot air, just like a standard oven
• An electric grill – usually available on most combination microwaves but do check the features when buying.

The combination microwave offers the benefits and convenience of an oven and a microwave in one kitchen appliance. Some combination microwaves also offer the option of using microwaving, oven cooking and / or grilling at the same time which can reduce the amount of time needed to cook.

Combination microwaves offer great flexibility and should be seen as an additional oven to your main oven, useful for large families or if you like having lots of people round to lunch or dinner.

You should only consider a combination microwave as a replacement to your main oven if you are prepared to sacrifice the ability to cook larger foods such as meat joints or roasts or do not need the capacity to cook lots of dishes at the same time.

However, combination microwaves are ideal for many types of cookery such as roasting, grilling and baking. They are also great for cooking jacket potatoes or warming soups and defrosting.
